Green Walk: Winter birds along the Water of Leith

Green Walks are social events and a great way to meet other Greens and explore parts of Edinburgh you may not know so well.

There should be lots of birdlife to spot on this woodland and riverside walk – possible highlights include kingfisher and nuthatch. There are also plenty of other points of interest if architecture or history is more your thing.

We’ll meet at 10:00 am at the footbridge to Murrayfield Ice Rink in Roseburn park, then walk along the Water of Leith to the Belford Bridge – detour up here through the Dean Cemetery and rejoin the river at the weir. The final stage will take us through Stockbridge and Inverleith Park, finishing at the Botanic Gardens’ Gateway Cafe.

Please wrap up well for the weather as this will be a slow walk with lots of stops. Bring binoculars if you have them.

Our Green Walks vary in terms of accessibility. This walk includes some steep steps on this walk and no dogs are allowed in the cemetery or Botanics (though these sections could be missed out). There are cafe customer toilets at start and finish and public toilets at Stockbridge and Inverleith Park.
