Sheku Bayoh came to Scotland from London when he was 17 and died aged 31 after encountering police on the street. Sheku left behind a partner, two young sons and a close family.
After years of perseverance by Sheku’s sister Kadi Johnson, his family and their solicitor, Aamer Anwar, a public inquiry into Sheku’s death began in 2022 and remaining ongoing.
‘A Portrait of Sheku Bayoh’ is a short film is about Sheku’s life as told by his family and friends. It is an invitation to get to know Sheku beyond media representations and his death.
Join us at Edinburgh City Chambers to watch this film about Sheku’s life and hear from his family members about how the inquiry is going so far, and what changes we need to make in Edinburgh to bring us closer to justice.
If you cannot make the screening but would like to watch the film, it can be accessed here along with further resources.
