Screening of Mike Joseph’s unforgettable, empathetic and thought provoking film with Q&A.
This documentary is the product of an encounter between two journalists. Mike Joseph is a Welsh Jewish journalist whose mother barely escaped the Holocaust (the rest of her immediate family weren’t so lucky); Sami Abu Salem is a Palestinian reporter living in Gaza, who has lost family, friends and home in the violence inflicted on Palestinians since October 2023.
The film presents a very personal history of Gaza from the 1948 Nakba up to today’s lethal war, through the eyes and lives of Palestinian journalist Sami Abu Salem and his family. As the story unfolds, Welsh Jewish producer/presenter Mike Joseph discovers startling resonances with his own family’s Holocaust history.
After the screening, Mike Joseph will lead a Q&A session, offering an opportunity for thought-provoking discussion and deeper insight into the film’s themes.
Frances Guy, executive director of Scotland’s International Development Alliance, former UK Ambassador to Lebanon with long experience across the Middle East and North Africa and trustee of the Britain Palestine Project will join the Q&A.
