Slater is bookie’s favourite to win Edinburgh Central at Scottish election

Green candidate Lorna Slater is tipped by bookmaker Ladbrokes to win the hotly-contested Edinburgh Central seat from sitting MSP Angus Robertson on 7 May.

It’s the first time in Scotland that any bookmaker has made a Green candidate favourite to win a constituency seat. If it happens, as tipped, then it would also be the first time that the Scottish Greens have won a constituency seat in Parliament.

As of 14 April, Ladbrokes has Lorna at 11/10 with SNP’s Angus Robertson at 5/4 and Labour trailing at 7/2. The Tory candidate is given at 100/1 making a mockery of SNP leaflets trying to make out that Edinburgh Central is a two-horse race between SNP and Tories.

The SNP claims have been strongly criticised by independent pollster Ballot Box Scotland which has highlighted that significant boundary changes put the Tories out of the picture and also predicting a Green win over SNP and Labour. This also follows a major poll from Yougov predicting Edinburgh Central as a narrow Green win.

Lorna, who has been Green MSP for Lothian since 2021, said:

“With only 3 weeks until polling day, every single vote counts and our local teams are on the doorstep every day, talking to and listening to voters about what matters to them. It’s really encouraging to see just how much people in Edinburgh Central have agreed with us that we can demand better of our Parliament and Government. From affordable housing and better childcare, to climate action and protecting human rights, the Green vision is attracting support in record numbers.

“Today’s news adds momentum to our campaign in Edinburgh Central and I’m committed to earning every vote on both the peach and lilac-coloured ballot papers”.
