Lothian Green MSP report – March 2026

Lorna Slater’s report to Edinburgh & West Lothian Greens

This report covers Lorna’s last month as an MSP before the dissolution of Parliament, into April as a candidate for the Holyrood 2026 elections.

Top & Timely

I was heartbroken that the Assisted Dying Bill didn’t pass at stage 3, Although I was very proud of my MSP colleagues, especially Ross Greer, for all the work he did to support the bill to pass. You can see the interview that I did for STV here and my speech on the bill here.Photo of Lorna being interviewed on STV website with heading - 'My father's death was beautiful, that's how I would like to go.'

In a flurry of legislation, we got Mark Ruskell’s Greyhounds bill through, supported legislation on The Promise for care-experienced children, passed the Crofting Bill and several others…. And thus endeth Session 6 of the Scottish parliament. One where 7 Green MSPs got more done than all the other opposition parties put together. I can’t wait to see what we can do in Session 7.

Portfolio

In the last few weeks of Parliament there were a couple of portfolio bills that were agreed unanimously by the chamber.

The Economy and Fair Work Committee agreed its legacy report.
