We are in the final few weeks of this parliamentary term, and what a wild ride it has been. This Green Group has achieved more than any group previously, and we are excited about the possibility of having Kate and Q join us and being even more effective in the next term.
The final few weeks will be dominated by getting legislation passed, most notably the assisted dying bill.
I chaired a roundtable meeting that brought together the Green MSPs and the representatives of a variety of trade unions for a discussion about their key asks going into the election.
Portfolio
Community Wealth Building Bill has passed, the first in the world, and should be a starting point for having different conversations about what economic success looks like and how everyone in Scotland can have a stake in Scotland’s success, not just the very wealthy. There is still a lot of work to do in this space: Compulsory Purchase Orders, Compulsory Sales Orders, Land Reform, and reform of procurement.
The Economy and Fair Work Committee have been reviewing the Climate Change Plan, and looking at the Digital Assets bill. Both of these will be coming to the chamber presently.
My proposal for a Wool Strategy for Scotland, has been supported by the Textiles Industry Leadership Group, and I will now be speaking with representatives of other key sectors: agriculture, tourism, small business and culture to get broader support for the initiative.
Regional & Campaigns
The Final Linlithgow Loch meeting was held, before West Lothian becomes part of Central Region, and I will arrange a handover of the project with Gillian Mackay’s office.
I got to speak to Surfers Against Sewage when they visited Parliament, to discuss many of the same issues relating to water pollution that we have been looking at around Linlithgow Loch.
