The cost of unpaid caring (VOCAL)

Nearly 30% of Scotland’s carers are living in poverty. Join us to explore the ongoing challenges of carer poverty and actions needed.
50% of carers have been forced to cut back on essentials such as food and heating, and are just surviving. 17 years on from the 2009 Carers Poverty protest in Edinburgh – despite significant legislative and policy changes – the dial has not shifted on carer poverty.
The event will include VOCAL’s board and staff members, alongside carers and support organisations. The programme, shaped by carers’ experiences, will feature:
- A spotlight on the main contributors to carer poverty
- Presentations on good practice, what works well and what more needs to be done
- A panel discussion on the cost of caring
- A marketplace for carers offering advice on financial wellbeing (benefits, energy, food, mobility equipment)
Come together with carers and organisations to discuss concerns about carer poverty and identify solutions for the future.
We publish events and consultations in our calendar which we hope will be of interest to our members and supporters. We strive to be accurate in these listings, so please contact us if you see an error or problem. The organisers of third-party events (coded blue) are mostly unconnected to us, and we have no control over these.
If you know of an event that you would like to see listed here, please let us know.
