Green Talk and Branch Meeting

Green Talk
How to support communities facing violence and injustice around the world?
Hundreds of millions, even billions of people live under oppressive regimes, vilified for their identity, scapegoated for ills of the world or just ruthlessly exploited for the benefit of the few.
Their countries are often labelled as authoritarian and the West’s solution for them are most often invasions, bombings, kidnappings and coups.
But what makes a country authoritarian, and what if anything we in the west should do to help their populations achieve true freedom?
To hopefully answer those questions, please join our Holyrood candidate Kate Nevens, Egyptian journalist and human rights defender who reported from the Middle East during the Arab Spring Ayyash Abdelrahman and ethnographic researcher and Lecturer in Anthropology of Development at the University of Edinburgh Dr Aaron Kappeler.
We’ll be looking at examples from Yemen, Palestine, Egypt and Venezuela.
Break
There is a break during meetings, and we offer tea and coffee with plant-based milk and a biscuit, including a vegan option. Water is available on request. Donations for tea/coffee/biscuits are welcome.
Branch Meeting
Following the talk and panel discussion there will be an opportunity to discuss broader party developments ahead of the next meeting of the party’s National Council on 7 March. The agenda and papers are available in the members website.
This part of the meeting is member-only
Accessibility
Our aim is to have branch meetings that are both in-person and online.
Online meetings are on Zoom and have closed captions enabled. Look out for details of how to join the online meetings in your monthly member e-news and reminder email.
If you need any more information, or have any ideas about any aspect of access or inclusion improvements that we can make at our events, please tell us.
We publish events and consultations in our calendar which we hope will be of interest to our members and supporters. We strive to be accurate in these listings, so please contact us if you see an error or problem. The organisers of third-party events (coded blue) are mostly unconnected to us, and we have no control over these.
If you know of an event that you would like to see listed here, please let us know.
